2016 NREDA Annual Conference

Wednesday, November 2, 2016Friday, November 4, 2016
Mount Pleasant, SC

Don Macke to present "Growing Livable Communities" workshop during the National Rural Economic Developers Association annual conference.

Research on successful and prosperous communities strongly suggests these communities do three things developmentally well and over time: (1) they are able to demographically renew themselves; (2) they create economic opportunities for both workers and entrepreneurs; and (3) they pursue smart quality of life place making. The keystone in today’s development environment is the ability of communities to retain and attract human talent. Growing livable communities is foundational to being competitive for high mobile human talent. This session will focus on a framework and process for growing livable communities. Don Macke with the Center for Rural Entrepreneurship will share lessons learned and stories (ranging from small metros to very rural) on this third foundation for community success.
